Verb + Preposition Combinations (Basic)
Some verbs always take a certain preposition.
Examples
- listen to music
- wait for a bus
- look at me
Key rules
- Many verbs need a fixed preposition: listen to, wait for, look at, depend on, belong to
- The preposition cannot be dropped or changed freely
- Pronouns after them use the object form (look at him)
- Meaning can change with another preposition (look at / look for)
Common mistakes
- I listen music โ I listen to music
- She waits the bus โ She waits for the bus
๐ก Tip: Learn the verb and preposition together as one chunk.
